The other day one of my roommate's texted me "TKE lost recognition, you know anything?" At the time I didn't and I was busy and completely forgot about it. This evening I got another comment on a post again inquiring about TKE. So I went over to Twitter and posted a question asking if anyone had heard anything about this. Within a few minutes someone responded: "They did, someone stole a gun from their house and they had to report it. But then UNH found out they had weapons."
That is the only explanation I have heard so far; and in the mean time another friend texted me saying he heard the same thing. I guess that will do it, weapons on a college campus are always a scary thing especially in the post-Columbine and Virginia Tech era. I must admit, although they had a gun (and honestly it could have been a hunting rifle or shotgun, those seasons are just beginning) they did the right thing by reporting it to the police.
If you know anymore details, or if I'm completely wrong, please post your comments below.
Now I need to get back to
Stay classy, not UMassy.
UPDATES:
I have heard from a few sources that 1 or 2 pounds of marijuana were found, as well as $2000 cash and the gun was also loaded. Read the comment section to see an explanation of their penalty from a current brother.
they had guns, and the police found drugs
ReplyDeletethey had two grand in house money, a pistol that belonged to one of the brothers who was in rotc, and a pound of weed, they were kept in a safe and all was stolen last week. they had to report it because the pistol was registered.
ReplyDeleteIt took them this long to lose recognition?
ReplyDeleteIt was an ROTC alumnus who brought his gun, it got stolen, their house searched and other stuff happened, were going to be down to 4 recognized frats soon with ATO on the way out for being douchers as usual
ReplyDeleteWhy do all of our frats suck?
ReplyDeleteWho is even recognized anymore?
I ask this honestly: If it was in a safe, how did it get stolen
ReplyDeleteAnd people wonder why fraternity bros get a bad rap
ReplyDeleteSLICK MOVE BRAH.
The word from a current TKE brother- this particular chapter lost its charter. They were downgraded to a "colony" status. By doing this they technically lost recognition with the university, as an unrecognized fraternity they cannot be banned from campus because they are not affiliated with it. Their house is going to stay basically dry for the next six months or so while they reapply for a charter with nationals. UNH will re-recognize them when they get their charter back with a clean slate.
ReplyDeleteI heard the gun was loaded, FWIW
ReplyDeleteabsolutely terrifying that they had a loaded gun stolen which is now roaming around UNH somewhere...
ReplyDeleteSo recognized fraternities with houses that can actually party are pretty much gone. Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI heard a girl got hurt there.....
ReplyDeletethe rumor i heard was that a bunch of TKE brothers found out who stole it and beat the kid up pretty bad..feel like we would've heard more about that if it were true though
ReplyDeleteThis just goes to show how idiotic some people can be. First of all, why would you keep a loaded gun anywhere on a college campus? even if it did belong to someone in ROTC, why wouldn't you just unload it when it wasn't in use? or a shitload of weed in a safe that clearly wasn't very secure? I feel like they wouldn't have reported it if the gun wasn't registered, and who knows what would have happened? They deserve to be unrecognized, who gives a shit if there's one less house to part at? Go somewhere else, it's not a requirement to have Greek letters splattered across the front of your house in order to have a good time.
ReplyDeleteI went to UNH from 1993-1997, and a brother of a local fraternity (ZX.) Although losing 'recognition' seems like a big deal, it's not. You miss the support of a national, and unless you can drum up enough new active members on your own (which we could not,) the Fraternity eventually fades away.
ReplyDeleteUNH would be content not to have a Greek life whatsoever. That's been an unspoken objective of theirs for years.
As for the loaded gun in a safe - again, much ado about nothing. I'm sure the dope was the issue. I've had a concealed carry permit fr years, and you'll find nothing in the student handbook that prevents possession of a firearm in an off-campus dwelling.
"Much ado about nothing"
ReplyDeleteThe nothing being that the loaded gun was taken out of the safe by an unknown person and now could be being carried around by a person *without* a concealed carry permit.
TKE has offered to sell the house to Lambda Chi.
