Censoring the Internet prevents knowledge from spreading and it prevents free knowledge in general, something that many people take for granted. You can make a difference by signing Google's "End Piracy, not Liberty" petition. Do yourself, and the country a favor, by taking 30 seconds to sign the petition. Censorship is wrong and it hurts business, industry and education.
Although, do people really think that they would censor the internet in America? I mean how dumb would Congress be to ██ █████ ██ ████ ██ ████ ██████ ██ ███████████ ██ and ██████ ██ ████ ██. Also, did it ever occur to you that ███████ ██ ████ ███ ████ ██? It's just ridiculous to think that could happen. You know what I mean?
I don't really want piracy ended
ReplyDeleteI see where you're coming from, but it's a hell of a lot better than entire (useful and helpful) websites being censored. The Bills have put to many things together and have used piracy to violate freedom of speech/press and the fair use act.
ReplyDeleteFirst commenter obviously doesn't realize the possibilities of what would happen if SOPA and PIPA passed. SOPA means "Stop Online Privacy Act" but it would do so much more than that. Not allowed websites to use materials from other sites and so much more. Thousands (multiples of thousands) of websites would be censored and shut down. Being able to download the new Lil' Wanye album leak is the least of our worries.
ReplyDeleteThey are trying to do a good thing with SOPA and PIPA and preventing piracy, but they are doing it in completely the wrong way. These bills will not end piracy, but instead put a filter on the Internet usage for United States users similar to the one used in China. Congress needs to be educated a whole lot more on the technical workings of the Internet if they are going to try passing bills to govern it. It would be a complete disaster for the Internet if these were to be passed.
