Preview of MGMT: Performance on SNL

By Lady Meow

Going from the initial tweets and I some what agree (I edited this after New Hampshirite put in that tid bit, a-hole) But they might be totally different when they perform here.
Tweets, the bad:

Wow, this MGMT performance on SNL was excruciatingly awful. I can't imagine paying money to see these hacks play live. Simply terrible.

Dear MGMT on SNL. You are terrible. It sounds like you are playing three different songs and forgot to bring a singer with you.

I just don't like MGMT. Fuckin' weird shit. my friend came into my room and asked me why I was listening to a sonic seizure

Before tonight, I'd never seen what #MGMT looked like. Now I've gone from ambivalent to hating them.

Tweets, the good: None. I guess they played "Brian Eno" and played "Flash Delirium"off their new album. I hear Paul McCartney loves them, but I thought their 2nd performance was horrific. Honestly at the end they literally danced & played how mentally challenged people do. I'm sorry but I tell it like it is. But you be the judge and I hope they are million times better when they come here!

For real, you be the judge though:

  1. I think they sounded amazing...
How often do you find a band that actually sounds like they do on their album when they sing live?

I will say the guy on the right is kind of creepy with the wide eyes and the ending was a little strange but they did it on purpose... it was intended to sound like that.

oh and PS your tweet thing is bullshit because there were plenty of good tweets about them

this is the alchololic kid from new york. i have, for the first time, started to drink early in the day... iwas told to paint the bathroom today so i decided to have a few beers to take the edge off and shit.a few turned intyo a lot, but not enought to forget that a lot is 2 words clearly. anyway its so early in the day to be drunk im trying to do my normal shit... like check my normal blogs and comment on the posts i like. So here we are. MGMT kicks all sorts of ass. MGMy's haters on twitter can go fuvk themselves too. if they dont apprciate good music... its not the bands fault. MGMY makes music you can feel and get into.... it sounds good, and is how music should sound. i feel better when i listen to it just like i feel better when i drink yeuling black and tans when i paint. they both make what you doing less sucky wether it be painting 9the black and tans) or living(the music).

  3. I think you wrote this like a retarded person would.

  4. I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed both of these performances. They sounded a lot like the actual recording, which is rare for a band like this. "Brian Eno" is supposed to be a crazy song with hectic noise. Some people like this music is some don't. Also, judging music from random people's tweets isn't exactly the best way to go about it.

  5. these performances actually didn't sound or look all that bad, they're lead could have been slightly (and i mean just a tiny little bit) louder, but other than that the performance was great

  7. i dont think their performance was the greatest, but i'd say its better than scam adams, ten fold. has anyone seen that cover of sublime by scam? terrible

  8. If you dig MGMT and the new songs, you dig the performances because they're very good versions of the songs. Criticizing the performance when what you really don't like is the music is basically a failure to understand how you are experiencing something.

  10. "Honestly at the end they literally danced & played how mentally challenged people do. I'm sorry but I tell it like it is"

Sounds to me that you really didn't like it. You also said that you agreed with the tweets. By the way, using twitter is probably the worst way to rate anything... also you grammar is terrible, the New Hampshirite's isn't great either, but at least his sentences make sense and are readable.

  11. again I was merely asking what you guys thought. could give 2 shits about my grammar. boooo hoooooo

  12. Poor grammar makes the blog look bad and is hard to read and comprehend. At least show a little effort with your thought process... and you did blatantly say that the performance was horrific.

  13. yes i did. doesnt mean i hate the band. and again I hope you all enjoy the concert and I hope they have more energy when they come here.

  14. "like some real music not synthesizer shit"

Please point to the synthesizer. I see a keyboard...

By all means, go ahead and "gauge" (or maybe "gouge") your eyes out now.

Oh, and nice job working in some misogyny and homophobia to give your opinion that extra intellectual boost.

  16. I can confirm that the live show is terrible. There's nothing quite like 400 people standing still while they try to convince themselves to be into a terrible sophomore album from an otherwise promising band. What a waste of potential dancing energy!
